Frequently Asked Questions

What is home health care?

Home health care is an excellent, cost-effective alternative to hospital or other institutional care. Service is based on the individual’s needs as defined by his or her doctor’s plan of care. This may include visits from skilled nurses, therapists, social workers and/or home health aides.

What are the advantages of home health care?

In many cases, home health care allows a person to be discharged earlier from a hospital, reduces hospital admissions, and helps with a faster recovery. Most importantly, people are happier at home and receive more care and attention from family, friends and home health care professionals.

Who qualifies for home health care?

For Medicare, Medicaid or Insurance covered home health, the individual must be homebound as required by the payer. The patient must require skilled qualifying services. The care needed must be intermittent (part time.) The care must be a medical necessity (must be under the care of a physician.)

Who qualifies for personal care?

An individual who determines there is a need and is willing to pay for provider services.

What Is The Difference Between Home Health And Personal Home Care Assistance?
The difference between home health and personal home care assistance is the necessity for skilled services. Home health care requires skilled services that would come from a physician’s order. This includes things like registered nurses, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Personal care assistance involves unskilled services that are typically paid for through private pay (not paid by insurance). These services include help around the house, transportation, bathing and some light meal preparation.

What type of professionals are on the home health care team?

The team includes doctors, nurses, home health aides, medical social workers, and therapists. They coordinate care based on the individual’s needs.

Who pays for home health care services?

Medicare, Medicaid or other health insurances may cover the cost of home health care services. Visit with your insurance company to verify benefits. Our Intake coordinator can help determine if the services you need are covered or if you need to make other arrangements.
